Why get a root shadow? You will get twice as long out of your foils. How is this possible? A root shadow creates a gradient transition from your natural hair to your highlights. This takes away the harsh regrowth line by smudging it, so don’t worry about your hair looking like early regrowth, as the blending looks purposeful and stunning! This gives you a softer grow out because, as your hair grows, your shadow will fade. This is what gives you twice as long out of your hair. By the time your natural roots grow out and your shadow has faded, your foils will have settled in and the regrowth line won’t be as sharp, allowing for you to continue growing you hair out for even longer if you like!

Another reason why our clients get root shadows, is to achieve a stretched out balayage look, on foiled hair. It might sound silly to do this instead of just getting a balayage but, there is actually lots of benefits to having your hair coloured this way! Because of the technique used to achieve a traditional balayage, the stylist loses control over how much lift your hair will have. This is fine for people who are after a warm toned finish. For those who are after a clean, white or ashy blonde, traditional balayage is not the best option. When processing your hair in a foil, the heat and moisture are insulated. This allows for the maximum amount of lift! Therefore we can get your hair as light and clean as the pictures you have been looking at on Pinterest! Whereas if we used balayage technique, you would be left with deeper, golden tones.

After we have consulted with you and decided on using a root shadow to enhance your style, we have to do all of the ground work. First we will apply your foils and let them process like normal. As the root shadowing doesn’t take place until your hair is washed, after lightening.

Once we have shampooed and towel dried your hair, we will bring you back over to your chair. Now we are ready to apply the root shadow. We will mix up the discussed colour to match your roots, and begin applying. We have to be very carful putting this colour on, to make sure that it blends perfectly, so this is why you may see us repetitively cleaning our hands and tools. After we apply your roots, we will blend your roots into your toner for your ends. This will ensure everything is blended perfectly and that you have the perfect blonde! After processing, we rinse your colour out and apply a complimentary treatment to rejuvenate and nourish your fresh hair. Then, depending on your package, we will give you a cut to keep your hair healthy, and finish with one of our famous blow dries!
