What are Foils & Foilayage?

We are Blonde Specialists here at Olivia’s Secret Hair and Beauty. But what does that mean for you? Our excessive experience and training in this area ensures that the quality of your result will be flawless. We look at your hair as a whole picture and work to correct anything from previous colours that need work, rather than cutting corners and only dealing with your regrowth. We use high quality bleach that is infused with bonding agents, to protect the health of your hair. When used correctly, the lightener we use causes no damage to your hair. We also have no limit to the number of foils used. Rather than working to a ‘one size fits all’ number, we use the appropriate amount of foils you need individually. This means your highlights will be evenly distributed and perfectly placed. We offer scattered or compact baby light foils to give a highlighted effect that reaches up close to your scalp, and we also offer a lower maintenance colour called foilayage. Most importantly, we use a foiling board which keeps your foils close to your scalp, the lightener smoothly applicated and without slippage or bleeding. Even the foils we use are of the highest quality to ensure the best processing time, giving you the best lift.

Have a look for pictures of your dream hair and bring them in for your consultation. We love having reference photos so that we have a clear idea of where you are wanting to get your hair, because we know things can get a bit ‘lost in translation’ when you are at the salon. Once we have had our in-depth consultation, we will be able to get started. Depending on your hair and where you want to be, we might use two different developers. This means that we will be able to lighten any under processed or dull hair that needs a boost, while maintaining maximum lift in places that need it, like the roots. This means, maximum lift, with minimal damage.

We will begin foiling your hair taking fine, neat sections and using expert placement. You may see us mix up several batches of bleach, why? It is better to mix small fresh batches than a big one because, as the bleach oxidises, it loses its strength. So by mixing fresh ones, we make sure you get a bright and even blonde. While your hair processes, we will probably put a towel over your foils. This is going to lock in your natural heat and make your hair process evenly. We might also wash your hair in sections, depending on how long your hair takes to process, this will avoid over, or under processing any foils.

After washing and prepping your hair, we will apply your toner which we will mix up according to our consultation, and only if it is needed. After you toner has process ed and been rinsed we apply your complimentary treatment and offer a relaxing head massage. When we bring you back over to your chair, we will give you a haircut and one of our famous blow dries, so you can see and fall in love with your beautiful fresh hair!
